Oak Trees” (2022)

For this piece I thought I would switch it up a bit and pull back from the coast and into a forest setting or clearing with a few big Oak Trees and get into some black and white. When I was young I used to draw these small pencil pattern pictures with one tiny shape replicated thousands of times. Almost like a kaleidoscope formation. The branches of these trees are much like that. Although there are some large ones…they range in widths and the smallest and most thin you would have to look closely at the canvas to see them. So, painting hundreds and hundreds of branches…all sizes and thicknesses is sort of calming for me. It also tests my patience as I paint them one brush at a time…with the rest of the brushes in my left hand. Each brush for a different width of branch or a different shade of darkness.
