Acrylic and Oil on Plywood
not for sale

"I painted these panels over two days using a combination of acrylic and oil paint on existing plywood. The act of painting was a peaceful protest, and the process became as significant as the finished result. The portraits created a sacred space where viewers could mourn, celebrate, leave objects, and ask questions. For the weeks following the completion of these panels, people engaged with them leaving roses and candles and the sidewalk was transformed into a sort of outdoor temple." -Dena Paige-Fischer
Dena Paige-Fischer is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in New York City to artist parents. Informed by imagery from the subconscious, spirituality and nature, she creates mixed media sculptures, paintings and drawings that fuse contrasting forms and materials in a complimentary way. Combining natural and industrial matter, such as metal, wood, stone, concrete, and plaster, along with imagery that fuses bodily features with abstract shapes, Paige-Fischer utilizes the ability of the inanimate object to embody an essence, spirit or ethos.
Paige-Fischer’s work has been exhibited at The Untitled Space, The Unruly Collective, Temporary Agency, and the Triskelion Arts Center (New York City), Collar Works (Troy, NY), Deepspace Gallery (Jersey City, NJ) MICA Brown Center (Baltimore, MD), The Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation (Ojai, CA), and Villa Caproni (Rome, Italy).
