Ephemerals , 2020
photography

I have always felt a strong need to document memories, things that will disappear over
time. In the photography series Ephemerals, perishableness can be found in each moment,
the need to capture something evanescent.
In March 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic started spreading in Finland. My first reaction to

the situation was to escape. To escape from a bigger city, from other people to my child-
hood home in a small countryside town.

When being obligated to stay indoors, the essence and the meaning of home changes. When
living territory is narrowed down to a house or an apartment, smaller happenings become
more exciting, interesting and important. Ephemerals is a glimpse to the time I spend at my
childhood home during the spring of 2020. The series shows small moments of affection,
loneliness, reunions, joy, sadness and normal everyday life.
