Glass and wood; Gregory Allicar Museum of Art, CSU, gift of Polly and Mark Addison, 2009.2.4

"The Bell Studio describes the process as follows: 'Glass is typically covered with a film that has been treated with metallic particles. This process takes place in a vacuum chamber and involves vaporizing metal alloys that then settle on the glass.' Based upon the concentration of the coating, Bell is able to control both the reflective and transparent properties of the glass in order that both the viewer’s reflected image and the ambient environment become part of the piece."
