In Bangladesh, a densely populated country where 160 million people live in an area approximately the size of New York State, much of the work is done manually: it is cheaper to hire people than to introduce machines. Brick factories are typical of such labor-intensive workplaces. These men were taking baked bricks from a kiln in a mad rush. Since they work on a commission basis, the more bricks they carry, the higher their daily wage. (Jessore, Bangladesh 2016)
