Fertilising Tomorrow , 2020
Hacking of ESCP flyer

By 2050, the world population is expected to grow to 10 billion people. It will demand 70% more food than the amount consumed today. And 68% of the population is projected to live in urban areas. This means we shall be transporting food into cities from all parts of the globe, thus emitting a huge amount of CO2. Changing our food system is therefore one of the most impactful things we can do to address climate change, create healthy cities and rebuild biodiversity. Everyone should therefore ask oneself: How can we design a better local food system for tomorrow’s world?
Among myriad of others, one possible solution would be to grow food directly in cities. Our collective path towards urban farming is however impeded by utilitarian inertia and institutional obstacles. It is up to us to free our imagination by escaping preset structures. Only through this will we be able to reach our dearly needed solutions for tomorrow’s food.
It is the artists’ intention to deviate ESCP from its original goal. We thereby declare that its purpose shall no longer be to educate future global business leaders. As of now, the school’s objective is to educate responsible citizens and to focus on the essence of tomorrow’s business: sustainability. As a token of our will, we deviated the parking lot into a community garden. This garden represents our vision and values. Students can now come to ESCP, grow their very own vegetables and sell them to surrounding neighbours during open days, like the one on October 9th...
