Janis Joplin , 2020
20 x 16 in (h x w)
watercolor, Digital

Janis Joplin's rise to fame was right at the height of hippie culture in California. She performed at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, during the summer of love, as well as at Woodstock. Her music was a substantial part of this time period and the social revolutions that took place. Even though she seemed like such a happy, free spirited person, a lot of her music has a very bluesy, melancholic sound. Her singing is a masterclass for vocalists.
