A WORD FROM THE ARTIST ON "THE TOOTH FAIRY" This painting was done after my own resent visit to a dentist.
While I was waiting for the doctor, I became VERY aware of a few things. Obviously because I felt VERY alone, VERY everything! The sterile smell of the room, all the instruments, the unbearable WAIT!
This painting describes the, mostly, ungrounded fears of a patient visiting his/her dentist. Its a total exaggeration of everything and everyone in the consulting room: the patient and his fears, the doctor pulling out a tooth the 'old school' way, the assistant (the 'fairy') carrying the new tooth, the mouse on the floor? - because we all know that every tooth has a mouse! The man in the background 'does not really exist'. He represents the rich imagination of the patient of what is going on! The bandaged man walking out the room, represents the self-pity of the patient.
Luckily I survived, to 'tell' the story!
