The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) is an instrument on the Hubble Space Telescope used by UT astronomers. The figure shows the effective area, a measure of the sensitivity, of each of the various modes that STIS can observe with. In the background is the ultraviolet STIS spectrum of the binary star V727 Car.
