The Shoe Shop III , 2004
90.8 x 86 cm (h x w)
Oil on canvas

© Julie Held

The third in a series of paintings of this title, Shoe Shop III reflects the artist’s ongoing interest in the symbolic value of objects and in shops as subject-matter, stemming from childhood visits to Florence. The red shoe recurs in several of Held’s paintings, particularly in relation to women.
