When I was going through my treatment for breast cancer I stared at the blank walls of the clinic and imagined what kind of artwork would inspire people facing their treatment and I was inspired by the image of Angel Wings. Angel wings speak to everyone no matter their faith or lack of faith. Angel Wings symbolize protection, purity, courage, love, harmony, and protection, everything a person needs on their journey through life, good and bad. From this, I started creating different works of art on the theme of angel wings. Working in Spiritual Health at Providence Care Hospital, patients and families connect with me about these pieces of art and tell me how it inspires them.
Patricia Van Boxmeer’s (aka Angel Artist) intuitive style reflects layers of passion drawing the observer into thoughtful interpretation of their spiritual vision. Her use of symbol and colour captures the imagination and invites a depth of revelation. One painting feeds off the other to develop tactile surfaces rich in texture and color.
Much of her work is intuitive finger painting and using different varieties of spatulas, very rarely does she use a brush. Through the use of different mediums it keeps her intrigued and motivated to experiment. It is about releasing the inhibitions; that moment when it all comes together, the unseen made visible within the imagination of the viewer.
Patricia works at Providence Care in the Spiritual Health, Mission & Ethics department. Every painting sold she tithes to the Providence Care Patient Comfort Fund.
