Au Coeur des Lettres

Installation Photograph

Au coeur des lettres is a metaphorical piece that situates the heart at the centre of communication.
Originally inspired by my village’s vibrant biblio community, and research into light as expressive element; the human heart became a planet in a starry universe, where letters and light may have intimate and expansive implications. Au coeur des lettres was my last formal art-installation before being invited to work within healthcare. I sometimes wonder if this project was readying me for new awarenesses, new partners, new ways to think about care, new applications for decades exploring collaboration.

cj is developing an Artist in Residence program through the Bruyère Research Institute, working mostly at
Saint-Vincent, Ottawa’s only complex continuing care hospital. Formed initially through movement and choreography, and deeply concerned with human spirit, cj’s practice has focused on engagement, and understanding and supporting the dynamics of different types of “communities”; through 20 public-art commissions, a range of site-specific installations and research projects. Constantly evolving, her work explores materials, contexts, scale, and “place” to investigate the potential of art in contemporary society, systems change, and aha moments.
