The heart is one of our most important organs and also one that is frequently under duress. It’s important in the healthcare field that both our physical and mental health are cared for. This can be done through compassion. Attention, softness, slowness, taking the time out to focus on and show care to a patient during times of high speed and high stress are all integral parts of the healthcare field. Watching the members of the health care field that dealt with and showed compassion towards my loved ones and during difficult situations over the years has been a source of gratitude in my life. Patience for patients. A gentleness for people in their most fragile states.

Rachel Harris is a Canadian artist who works primarily in painting, sculpture, and installation. She focuses on sustainability, community, and rethinking the way in which we consider the natural world to show how nature itself is intertwined into our being. Harris volunteered for two years at the Hands On Centre in the Art Gallery of Ontario in order to pass along her love for the arts to another generation. She completed her undergraduate degree at Ontario College of Art and Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting and a minor in English in June 2014.
