A Tree's Story

A poem about the only innocent bystander in a lynching. I often hear how people were innocent bystanders during lynchings but they were not. The people who watched were guilty. I often think about the role of women — specifically white women (NON-BLACK WOMEN) during the 246 years of chattel slavery in America and I wonder why so many stood by and watched.
