Andrew "Rube" Foster

Died: December 9, 1930, Kankakee, IL

Andrew "Rube" Foster founded the National Negro League and is known as the "Father of Black Baseball". He was a pitcher, manager and team owner. Foster purportedly earned the nickname “Rube” after besting white Hall of Famer Rube Waddell during a game in 1902. Foster was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981.
