Originally from Los Angeles, Brandon S. Gellis earned his BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his MFA from the University of Denver, and is a New Media Artist, Educator, and Maker. In 2015, he joined the University of Wyoming Art faculty, and has won multiple Juror's Choice Awards and grants. His work explores identity, community, and complex systems. He is concerned with how people construct individual and community identities, develop networks rich with cultural memory, and exploit biological networks and communities. As a new media artist his creative practice is deeply rooted in his love of working across digital and analog media to explore and create speculative narratives and aesthetics through generative and computer visualizations, VR/AR/MR, physical computing, 3D-digital design & 4D motion graphics, and digitally interactive installation.

HOW DOES THIS WORK RELATE TO TECHSPRESSIONISM, AS DEFINED AS "AN ARTISTIC APPROACH IN WHICH TECHNOLOGY IS UTILIZED AS A MEANS TO EXPRESS EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE" ?

One of the best parts about being a digital artist is the constant exposure to new technologies and creative practices. My creative work is rooted in emotion responses to personal experiences, media, cultural discrimination, and clear imbalances of power. I utilize technology to augment perceptions of reality. In some instances, media drives the message and in other’s exploration of critical ideas often leads to the exploration of new technologies. I love working across digital and analog media to explore and create speculative narratives and aesthetics through generative, interactive, and critical art. Joining the Techspressionism movement has exposed me to an array of fascinating digital and technology-based artists.
