Vs the Crazy 88 , 2021
60 x 83 cm (h x w)

In ‘Vs the Crazy 88’ I pay homage to the main character ‘The Bride’ in the film
‘Kill Bill’ through my own techniques and imagery. By using this snapshot from the film, I was able to demonstrate my techniques and skills to create an out of register subject matter and impart a comical, energized, and complex aesthetic. I chose a smooth and simple background using acrylic paint colours crimson, vermillion, and lemon yellow. I first applied them with paint brushes, then merged the colours together and eliminated any brush strokes using a paint roller. This background is simple yet visually radiant and contrasts well against the detailed complexity of the subject matter. For my subject matter, I used large screen prints which I outsourced to get a larger better-quality image which I would be unable to do using a RISO machine. I used the filled shaped screen print to create the out of register effect behind the main detailed screen print which I painted on top.
