The Ancient Dodo

When I asked my son for ideas to name the piece he observed the heart token, the egg shaped bead and the odd shaped bead. He also observed the colours and textures in the felt beads and how they felt ‘old’. He really likes dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures. The heart and egg reminded him of a dodo and the odd shape, of something prehistoric. He thought The Gobbling Dodo. At the same time I had been pondering the marbleised look of the finished pieces, the swirls of the rolled beads and thinking through various ideas - ocean waters, currents, marble, historical materials etc.. The combination of colours, shapes, directions and the finish on the beads felt old or ancient. Together we came up with ‘The Ancient Dodo’!
