Nicola Scott’s work positions her as an artist-naturalist, observer, and creator experiencing the dynamics of control and chance, culture and nature.
She uses the spaces, materials and events of her urban back garden, asking us to look again at the impact of species that live side by side with us. Her work simultaneously expresses the fragility and density at the heart of our relationships within nature.
In The Patio Project, from August 2019, collagraph plates the size of a patio brick are exposed for specific months, recording and placing us in time. The snails eating the plates are often key collaborators.
This project has produced work with a wide range of compositions and colour possibilities, often expressing individual months or the seasons.

The print that was selected for this fair is 2020 Vision. Here the 12 plates for that year are arranged to recall the patio they were inspired by. Weathered and riddled with marks from plants and wildlife, this print suggests a commentary on that year that comes from outside of humanity.

Scott has built experience in printmaking over several years study at the City Lit and East London Printmakers. She participated in resulting exhibitions in 2018 and 2019, and most recently in the online show A Tempo, created by the Tenfold Collective.
