Emily Ketteringham’s screenprints are all about layering and precision, they often inspired geology and rocks. The overarching theme that unites all her work is her love of, and experimentation with, colour.
In her ‘Colour of Place’ series, Emily is exploring the importance of colour within memory. The circle prints are about being in the moment, drinking in the colour of a landscape, letting the colour be all there is.
This particular circle print is inspired by the colours of Tarset in Northumberland where Emily recently completed a five week residency with VARC (Visual Arts in Rural Communities). Although each circle is inspired by a specific place, Emily hopes that the colours and abstract shape will evoke memories of different places for each viewer.
Emily’s pixel prints are another exploration of visual memory. The pixelation of the image refers to the breakdown of memory, to Emily’s attempts to hold onto images that keep slipping through her grasp. Each screenprint is based on photographs taken in Western Australia.
Emily has an MA in Multidisciplinary Print, and another in Design. She was shortlisted for the Boodle Hatfield Printmaking prize at the 2020 Woolwich Print Fair.
