Katya Timoshenko work of introspection and self-exploration addresses conflicts with the alter ego, revealing herself to the viewer and the viewer to themselves.

Katya’s tactile exploration of the techniques of the printmaking process considers how making informs concept and contributes to the multifaceted psychological spaces we all encounter, inexplicable emotions even to herself. This creates a reflection of the viewer that leads to a sense of self-investigation and meaning.

Her ‘Flower’ series are multiple plate etchings with different depths of bite, aquatint and ink viscosity building on complicated stacks of layered inks and embossing. Katya invites the viewer in to her personal garden landscape of introspection. Like the ink layers, we are encouraged to consider the world around us with its different depths and connections. The lifecycles garden therapy during the recent year reflects our states of mind and empowers a new type of growth.

In ‘At home’ and ‘Safe enough’ Katya addresses questions of confined safety. Death representing a safe retreat from the world in preparation to continue along the inevitable life cycle, much like our homes and gardens have become our confines that we wait to emerge from. A metaphorical flowering of the mind, allowing ourselves once more to start anew.
