Working in relief print and contemporary wood engraving, Neil Bousfield’s practice explores the landscape narrative of the North Norfolk coast and the changing geography of time and place.

The work here responds to personal, environmental and experiential narratives which create a sense of place. The Norfolk coast, low lying, fragile and temporal in its nature, illuminates past and present. The lands lost beneath the waves amplify the vulnerability of coastal communities. Set against the context of coastal erosion and sea-level rise, the work raises questions for humanities fragile relationship with the sea and the land.

Bousfield was born in Middlesbrough and now lives on the Norfolk coast. He studied at Bristol’s University of the West of England where he gained a Master of Arts degree in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking, awarded with distinction in 2007. He is an elected member of The Society of Wood Engravers and a fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE).

His work is held in private and public collections including the National Art Library, V&A; Ashmolean Museum; MMU Special Collections; Pallant House Gallery; Ohio State University Libraries, USA; China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) Beijing Shi; and the Jiangsu Art Museum, Nanjing, China.
