Inspiration:This artwork was inspired by Helen Sharman, originally a chemist, she became the first British astronautin space and was the first woman to visit the Mir Space Station during project Juno.Training in the programme at Star City for 18 months after being selected from 13000 applicants, shelaunched into space in 1991.

Collection:
This is taken from the series "Women Who Unlocked The Universe"- A Space Of One's Own: Thesepowerful figur es in time revolutionised our understanding of the universe and provided invaluablecontributions to the field of astronomy, astrophysics and space travel. In pursuing their passions forthe heavens, scouring the skies for stellar spectra, chasing comets and mapping the cosmos theyultimately unlocked the mysteries of the universe.

Technique:
Project Juno In 3D (Helen’s Flight)was created byconstructing a hand-cut collage using femalephotographic portraiture, hand-printed surface textures of chemigrams and photographs of lunar craters. After coating the handmade paper sheets with light-sensitive chemistry, they are left to dry in a dark room. The large scale negatives are then contact printed onto the paper by exposing to daylight (UV rays). Theprints are processed by thoroughly washing in water to remove any unexposed solution. The parts canthen be hung to dry, developing to full density Prussian blue after 24 hours. Once fixed they are handfinished with 24-carat gold leaf
