Soul , 2021
Coloured pencil on paper

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

In her artwork called “Soul”, Aliya uses vibrant pencil colours to depict the word in graffiti form. She chose the word “Soul” as it represents the part of us that is hidden from the physical eye but a part that is everlasting. Aliyah indicates that the soul is what makes us human and this is something we should not forget. This artwork was completed in Fall 2021.

Other pieces of Aliya’s work have been submitted and included in the 2020 apARTogether national exhibit, as well as the Ottawa Inshallah project (the latter is a collection of different works of art from young Muslim artists in Ottawa). The majority of Aliya’s art reflects vibrant colours that inspire hope for a brighter future, especially as we look towards a path forward and out of the current global pandemic.
