The Moon Phases , 2021
69 x 183 cm (h x w)
Acrylic paint and posca pen on board and audio

The thought I had was a good one. Not sure where it came from.

I liked the colours of the Beatles faces in the plasticene portraits in the collection and the fact they were made by an artist with mental health condition. I have similar.

I am sure the artist who made it went to art school and his music is a complimentary piece.

My work is kind of the same theme, but only with colour and words in poetry.

I also took inspiration from my Four Seasons piece which I produced before lock down. For this exhibition I made another piece of the same dimensions on boards, and placed the moon and its four phases the same way I had done with the four seasons. Yet the moon is a quicker rotation of 4 weeks, while the sun takes a year for 4 seasons.

Maybe I’ll do another in the same style. And the same theme sometime…

The moon phases
by Stuart low

full moon so bright

the moon phases like your soul
without a moon there would be nothing
insipid hearts dig like dogs
the property side-lines celebrated

as the light comes from the sun
against the backdrop of shadows
the darker side of the moon appears
as the hole becomes brighter by half

then as the days weary on
the light nights bright sight
quarter turns to half
and the shadows turn

glowing embers of some distant fire
a sky makes lines upon the night
when the moon turns from half
its sequence is all we’ve ever known

like high tide or a winters song
bright eyed and wild aware of life
sharp colours and an infusion
blue hue purples deep in the night

no rhythm as a slight of hand puns
dark light comes around
your reflection might lie
don’t reach into the pond

madness calls many tides
the end of night as a still morning breaths
rituals made from the darkest souls
but brightness comes in the night

full moon so bright
