Blown Away By The Night , 2021

Digital photographic print

My daughter and I took a drive up to UWE Glenside Campus (originally the mental health hospital and grounds 1861-1994) in the heat of the night on Halloween Oct 31st 2021.
The day before I had visited the museum and a volunteer kindly told me the clock is known to light up blue at night so I wanted to see it for myself and yes it sure does. On driving through Stapleton it was noticeable to us that the students had gone all out celebrating, dressing to impress for Halloween.
I can recollect seeing 4 Power Rangers waiting at a bus stop, then not long after we spotted Cruella De Vil and the Spice Girls walking up the hill towards the campus. Whilst we were both admiring the illuminated clock tower we spotted a guy walking along the road dressed in an orange boiler suit which had "ESCAPED CONVICT" printed on the back of it.
My daughter commented that he looked scary walking with minimal lighting with Glenside Hospital Buildings as his backdrop. On my return home, with the comments my daughter made spinning in my mind, I decided to edit a photograph of the main building I had taken on a previous daytime visit to resemble an eerie building in order to capture the mood of the night.
I must say the whole trip brought us both a lot of wholesome laughter.
