The Kirkwall Men's Ba is one of the oldest games of football anywhere in the world. The game, without rules or boundaries, flows like an amorphous torrent through the stone streets and alleyways of Kirkwall, its tradition flowing down through the centuries, and through Orcadian generations of father to son. Based in Viking folklore, the ba' itself replicates in sawdust stuffed leather, the head of a defeated Viking foe, being kicked victoriously along the ground as told from the tales of the Orkneyinga Saga.
