For this particular piece called “Mandala”, what inspired me to create this mandala painting was
nature. Everyday I go for walks around my neighborhood and I noticed how flowers stand out to me in my neighborhood garden. I used a 16 x 16 inch canvas with acrylic paint and sharpie to
decorate around the squiggly lines of the painting. I picked to work with acrylic paints because it is a familiar medium. I used a sharpie as a new medium because I have not worked with it before when it comes to acrylic paint. I used brighter colors in the center of the painting while using more neutral tones on the outer sides because I wanted to create a feeling of tranquility.
