My artwork is inspired by environmental issues of the Anthropocene era, an age of human impact on the natural world. From climate change and extreme weather events to loss of habitat, biodiversity, and species extinctions, our planet is quickly approaching a strange and unpredictable future. My work visually depicts this modern conflict between the natural world and the man made world, creating elaborate, photorealistic images that reveal a satirically dystopian vision of the not-too-distant future. I portray this as an epic struggle and in my work these forces clash in theatrical, post-apocalyptic battlegrounds.
This piece, "Sanctuary" envisions a world where nature has reclaimed modern civilization and exotic animals have emerged from their enclosures to inhabit the new wild spaces. Through a combination of my own photography, digital collage, and printmaking, this work explores concepts like the reclamation of nature and rewilding the modern world. With this piece, I wanted to create a juxtaposition between the ruins of modern civilization and an ecological utopia, showing a glimpse into this hypothetical world and giving viewers a space in which to contemplate the future of our planet.
