The mask, which appears frequently in my work, indicates the appearance of an individual entity with a rational nature, that is, a persona for all existing objects. So far, it is limited to the one that reflects the image of 'I' myself, but I want to gradually expand the subject.
'I love u but I hate u', a digital drawing for a silkscreen artwork, features a boy wearing a Spider-Man mask. He is just standing in a corner of a hypermarket with a toy gun, and it is impossible to tell whether he is real or imaginary.(Actually, I took the picture myself and drew it with my iPad)
Expressions of such an ambiguous place, temporality, and ambiguous existence are the devices of my work that I enjoy quite a bit, and there are many tendencies in photographic work of objects.
In 'I love u but I hate u', I tried to express the word Love-Hate, where love and hate exist at the same time like two sides of a coin. It seems logically contradictory, but the feeling of the word itself reminded me of an episode in my past, and I worked it while imagining the lines of the boy in the picture.
In the same vein, my recent work 'Mask of ahimsā, Linocut, 2020' is being produced as a convex print series, and it is a work of peeling off my persona, which I created myself to from the customary forms of social violence. In addition to printmaking, I have been experimenting with making prototypes using various media such as photography, video, and sculpture.
