‘But deeper lies the heart of peace
In quiet more profound;
The heart of quietness is here
Within this churchyard bound.’

The Greens’ bodies were found three days after their disappearance and were buried in Grasmere churchyard soon after. The ceremony proved difficult for the children; one of them was so emotional she refused to attend and another fainted by the graveside.
