Oil Pastel, markers, colored pencils, glue on paper

The work is a concept for a larger series surrounding the different selves that have developed because of moving around in various US states and countries throughout the artist’s adolescence. This first portrait and collage-like oil pastel piece are based on memories from Durango, Colorado where the artist lived for 1-2 years when they were 5-6 years old. In the piece, there are things like a bird’s nest, tamales, bear cubs, a barbie jeep (owned by childhood best friend at the time), and a donut.
The artist plans to make a similar series for all the places they have lived and the memories that they contain. The main intention is to remember, as time passes the memories become increasingly distant. Another intention is to attempt to visualize these past selves outside of the artist’s own mind and wonder who could have this past self been if they had not moved to the next place?
