ensō
29.7 x 21 cm (h x w)
Oil on canvas

Ensō is a concept taken from zen Buddhism in which a single stroke circle represents the aim of enlightenment, completion, and perfection. This piece shows two ensō circles, both of which are complete yet contrary to one another. The symbolic mix-and-match between white and black color, as seen in yin and yang symbols, signifies flaws and imperfection. I aim to express how perfection is imperfection with grace. That balance is an illusion that if achieved brings us closer to perfection.
