STORY:
This image to me is very contemplative. During a photographic expedition in New Zealand, we ventured into Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. On our walk in to shoot Tasman Glacier and Mount Cook, we came upon this beautiful blue lake. I noticed the amazing red vegetation (Manihi) and was fascinated by the intricacy of the foliage and the way it floated on this mirror-like pool. Most people deemed it inconsequential and walked by, intent on their mission to shoot the glacier and the big mountain. Not seeing what I was seeing, they left me to my folly. There I was, surrounded by big pictures, yet focusing on the small picture. Sometimes we become overwhelmed by the grandeur of a scene and pass by the subtleties. By all means shoot the big pictures, but I think it’s these more intimate details that really help photographers tell their own story and capture unique images.
