瑪莉蓮夢露是美國女演員、模特和歌手。她是20世紀50年代和60年代初最流行的性感象徵之一。她在1962年自殺身亡，隨後安迪‧沃荷開始創作瑪麗蓮夢露系列，把雜誌封面的瑪麗蓮夢露擷取下來，畫家在畫布上完成部分畫面，然後在畫布上覆蓋絲網，再用有黑色油墨的橡膠滾軸在絲網上滾動，因此畫面產生了照片的效果。是將拓印應用在布面油畫上的一種創作方式，而濃烈的色彩也讓波普藝術被與「艷俗」劃上等號。

Making her name as an American actress, model and singer, Marilyn Monroe was one of the most iconic sex symbols in the 50s and early 60s of the 20th century. After Monroe committed suicide in 1962, Andy Warhol started creating a series of artworks inspired by the legendary star. Using the magazine cover featuring Monroe as his source image, the artist partially worked on his painting on a canvas, and then covered the canvas with a silkscreen and used a robber roller with ink for silkscreen printing, producing a photographic effect.
