This collage portrait is based on a singer-songwriter named Melanie Martinez. It is meant to showcase how she is on the inside using different colours and patterns, as we had learned to do from our Bisa Butler assignments. Melanie Martinez's special way of writing songs really inspired me to dig deeper while making this. I really admire that she speaks out about the world's problems by hiding them in her lyrics. For example her song “Show & Tell” speaks out about things she personally faces as a celebrity. Many of her other songs talk about things that would be easier for people who aren’t famous to relate to and they have great depths to them. I also admire and appreciate her smart lyrics. For example, “Butterscotch and bubblegum drops are bittersweet to me.”
