scratchboard

I’ve been playing CSN on guitar lately and felt inspired to do a scratchboard piece on them. I used scraperboard, which is a British version of scratchboard. It’s thin and stiff like oaktag poster paper. It’s coated with a light layer of clay and ink like scratchboard panels. This material works great when you’re not trying to capture a photo-like image. I can’t get the same detail and texture as I do with scratchboard. I wanted this piece to remind me of an old concert poster or album cover. After completing it, I gave it a couple of washes with diluted sepia brown and yellow ink. I love the way this piece turned out.
