Ukrainian President Zelensky has shown himself to be an exceptionally strong leader. He has literally led from the front as his country continues to repel a Russian invasion. His moral strength and leadership inspired me to capture his image in a scratchboard piece. I wanted this to look dramatic and reflect the darkness of this war. Scratchboard is well suited for those effects. I used a scalpel and tattoo needle to scratch the image. Multiple layers of diluted ink and brushing the surface with the tattoo needle gave me the rough edge and texture.
