Artist Statement: It has taken almost all of photography’s history for it to be accepted as actual art rather than simply the recording of a scene or action. Reviewing my own work, I can see that I search for those moments when life itself creates the artistic image that causes me to raise my camera in the hopes of capture. My preference is B. & W. street photography but color often grabs me in as well. I’ve always been a candid photographer from the start and drawn to photographing people. I once drove alone tent camping across the US and Canada to Alaska interviewing people in Laundromats to build up a body of work. When I found laundromats too noisy for recording, I started interview everyone from trapper in Cold Foot Alaska to poet security guard in New Orleans. Now on occasion I chose to use computer manipulation for creating unique effects.
Artist description: I applied for show in New Orleans so I could go photograph. At the French Quarter young men gathered to make music, I started shooting.
