Diary Drawing Day 85 , 1997
30.5 x 22.9 cm (h x w)
Watercolour and pencil on paper

Well, I'm really sort of getting settled into this now. I can't remember where I was. But at that stage I was on some medication which helped me sleep incredibly well. And when every waking moment of your day is filled with anguish, and you're sort of performing being okay most of the time, and sleep is just, when you get sleep is heaven and this medication helped me sleep during those years. They stopped it, sadly. But yeah, going to sleep was blissful. So this is a painting about sleep, and it's got my favourite Prussian blue. I just love that colour and it's a very good quality pigment. So it's very powerful in the water, and that other blue, which is Ultramarine, I think it was French Ultramarine is not so powerful. But you can see and that Burnt Umber is one of my other favourite colours. But I love the way the Prussian blue on my
eyelashes bleeds into the - sort of intimating the sort of what's going on in my mind, I suppose. And my strange red mouth - Crimson. I just think it's a painterly-ness and summing up the bliss of oblivion for however many hours you can get it when you're in the state of despair, and pain. It's comforting.
