Painting, ashes, print, stencil and ginkgo leaf on canvas, 150×80 cm.

„Ever since the Syrian revolution started, we had to cling to the idea that life is stronger than death, and that we can live and move on despite the dictator, tyrants, and destruction. To my eyes, the Ginkgo serves as a symbol of life, because this tree was able to survive the Hiroshima nuclear bombing in 1945, while all the other creatures including plants and animals were destroyed. Although it was burnt, it was still able to survive and rebuild.
I am always in search of light, and I found this golden leafed tree in Pontoise, the town where I have lived for the last three and a half years. There is a significantly large tree in the town hall of Pontoise that also overlook the Ginkgo Art Gallery, where I was able to collect all these dead leaves.“
