Graduated in sculpture from Glasgow School of Art 1974, then teaching diploma from Jordanhill College of Education 1975. Then worked as an art teacher in rural Argyll for 3 years.

Between 1978 and 1990 worked as an urban artist in Glenrothes, as a full-time member of the City Corporation's multi-disciplinary architecture and planning department. Designed and produced site-specific sculptures, artworks and murals in a social and environmental context as an integral part of the city's masterplan. Became internationally known and directed art festivals, youth training programmes and graduate apprenticeships.

From 1991 own professional studio with extensive portfolio of site-specific sculpture and artworks in a variety of materials on view in the UK, Germany, India and (from 16 years living in Sarasota/Florida) the USA. He now lives back in Scotland where he works as a commissioned artist.

Working in partnership with other designers and local communities, he meets artistic challenges with inspiring, memorable solutions and a 'hands-on' approach.
