Bequest of Alfred F. Pillsbury, No 50.46.449

Ceramics made in the medieval Persian town of Kashan were widely known for their colorful glazes and the special double-firing technique which was necessary to achieve these striking effects. The process involved the stonepaste to be burned first, and then another, low-temperature fire to secure the overglaze painting.
