For several reasons, ensuring nutrition and hygiene are crucial for the health and well-being of mothers and children living in climate-prone areas such as Bagerhat District in Bangladesh. Climate-prone regions are often characterized by poor sanitation and hygiene, which can lead to the spread of diseases such as diarrheal disease, cholera, and other waterborne illnesses. Proper hygiene practices such as handwashing, sanitation, and clean water access can reduce the risk of infection. Climate change can impact crop yields, leading to food shortages and malnutrition. In areas like Bagerhat, where people rely heavily on agriculture, the effects of climate change can lead to decreased food availability, which can impact the health and nutrition of both mothers and children. Climate-prone areas may have limited access to healthcare services due to their remote location or poor infrastructure. This can make it difficult for mothers and children to receive proper medical care when needed, impacting their overall health and well-being. Climate-vulnerable areas are more susceptible to natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, and landslides, leading to displacement, injury, and death. During disasters, access to food, clean water, and healthcare services can become even more limited, exacerbating the health and nutrition challenges mothers and children face. Throughout the CRAAIN project, Concern Worldwide and its partners ensured proper nutrition and hygiene practices are crucial for mothers and children living in climate-prone areas such as Bagerhat District in Bangladesh.
