“The Self” (The Personal and Familias)

As a student in the Somali diaspora, I am passionate about preserving my cultural heritage and showcasing the beauty of Somalia. This passion led me to create a collage that showcases my family and the diverse and vibrant aspects of Somali culture, including the people, traditions, and stunning landscapes.
In addition to the collage, I also created a video that explores the history of Somalia from before the civil war, through the war, and into the present day. This video highlights the resilience and perseverance of the Somali people, and the efforts of the diaspora to connect with their cultural heritage. The video features images of traditional dances, historic landmarks, and vibrant markets.
Through my collage and video, I aim to shed light on the rich history and culture of Somalia and to celebrate the people and traditions that make it such a unique and beautiful place. Whether you are a member of the diaspora or someone simply interested in learning more about Somalia, I believe my work will provide a glimpse into this fascinating and overlooked corner of the world.
