Η λιμνοθάλασσα αποτελεί μέρος τις ευρύτερης θαλάσσιας προστατευόμενης περιοχής του Κορινθιακού κόλπου με τον οποίο επικοινωνεί μέσω ενός στενού καναλιού. Πρόκειται για μια από τις μεγαλύτερες σε έκταση θαλάσσιες περιοχές Natura στη χώρα μας, όπου συναντάμε είδη-σύμβολα των μεσογειακών και ελληνικών θαλασσών όπως είναι το ρινοδέλφινο, η χελώνα καρέτα και η πράσινη χελώνα.

The lagoon is part of the wider marine protected area of Korinthiakos Gulf, with which it communicates through a narrow channel.
This is one of the largest marine Natura 2000 areas in our country, and it hosts iconic species of marine animals that are emblematic of the Mediterranean and Greek seas such as the common bottlenose dolphin, the loggerhead turtle, and the green sea turtle.
