This artwork represents the theme of cultivating a connected community because in a positive school environment, everyone is welcome. In my artwork, I show people of different ethnicities, shapes, sizes, disabilities, and sexualities within a school environment. The red ribbon enforces the idea that everyone is connected, that we are all human and we should accept each other no matter what. I have also included a teacher approaching a struggling student to represent the importance of mental health. I have had a very positive experience with the DDSB and I wanted to express that with this artwork. Teachers have supported me, helped me learn, and I’ve had plenty of kind and accepting friends. In order to keep this positive community, we need to work together to be kind to one another and put in extra care to make sure everyone feels accepted, comfortable, and happy.
