My artwork represents my culture, community and my religion. I come from a place with rich culture and I wanted to show that by creating this piece of art. In this artwork there is a woman wearing a niqab. A niqab is an Islamic piece of clothing for women, that covers their body from head to toe. I did this to represent my religion, which is very dear to me and because I feel like Muslim hijab/modest women go through a lot of discrimination because of the way they look and dress. No one really recognizes the beauty in them. Its not just modest women, but a lot of people also don't see the beauty behind a whole religion. And after come to realize it truly is a beautiful place. That's why I decided to name my artwork جَمَال or in English Beautiful. I am grateful for my school and my community which allows me to express my religion and cultural values, that is a big part of my identity.
