For me, a connected community, which is the theme for this year's artwork, can be represented as a simple but beautiful thing everlasting within our region. Kindness, for example, passes through our community through several different people, and it'll keep cycling as long as the community is united. The DDSB symbol, interestingly, represents this concept. The circle around the fire is like the cycle; the connection between all of us. The flame itself represents something good; something that should keep burning, not be washed out. This is why I decided to draw multiple people helping one another in a chain of events around a circle, because ultimately, we all are connected.
