For my art peice I chose to have a floral theme. I chose this for two reasons. First, The title and painting is a play on words since "cultivating" can also mean growing or planting. Secondly, many different flowers have meanings, so I chose flowers that I think have meanings that are important to community for example: blue hydrangeas are accociated with gratitude, forgiveness and beauty. The bouquet represents a community. I chose a white ribbon because it is a well known symbol for peace. The people are tying the bouquet together which is symbolic of how different people "tie" their community together. I chose to make the ribbon 3D so that it would stand out and be a focal point in the painting. I wanted the painting to have many different kinds of sybolism in it.
